Homework is central to learning at Chobham Academy. We expect all teachers to set homework regularly; students to complete homework conscientiously and parents to support homework and tell the Academy if any issues arise.
Well planned homework enhances and extends the learning students encounter in class. Some homework should embed class learning, other pieces will involve finding out about and explaining new things. What all homework should have in common is that they are thought out by the teacher, relevant and appropriately challenging for students.
All students should record homework in their planner. Parents can also check what homework has been set via the Show My Homework website.
Here is an approximate guide to the amount of homework students should be doing each week:
Years 7-9: 30 minutes per subject each week (English, Maths and Science have two homeworks a week).
Years 10-11: at least one hour per subject each week (English, Maths and Science have two homeworks a week).
Post 16 (A Level and Vocational): a minimum of five hours of homework for each subject.
